dietetic technician program

Road to RD: Everyone’s path is different. I am a firm believer that the journey is the reward. My path is non-traditional but when deciding to  go back to school in Fall 2013, it was helpful for me to read about other people’s experiences.

When I first left for college in Fall 2005, I attended a small school in Western Oklahoma on a soccer scholarship. I went into college majoring in Pre-Pharmacy and then Nutritional Sciences but ended up completing my degree in Business Marketing with a minor in Communication Arts (talk about major shift in programs). After graduation, I went to work in corporate America, and spent the next 5 years of my life feeling as if I missed a major calling in life. Between 2010 and 2013, I began to become very involved in my community through local races and events, this reignited my passion and interest in nutrition and how good nutrition makes the body move.

Also, around this time, I knew I wanted to move closer to home. I began to research programs in the area and decided on Tarrant County Community College. I decided to apply to a Dietetic Technician program here because 1) this program was reputable and accredited by ACEND 2) significantly cheaper (although I ended up receiving a scholarship) 3)  the courses and internship hours completed in the DT program could be used as prerequisites for the RD program.

So, in the Fall of 2013, I decided to trade in my office name plate and A-line skirts for yoga pants and college hoodies (again).

I decided that I would create a new tab on my page dedicated to some of my case studies and projects I’ve completed during my program. It won’t be for everyone, but for those that may be considering going to school for Nutrition or Dietetics.

Hope this can shed some light and guidance for those pursuing this career.

❤ Krystal
