rewiring.

Today, I had a blog view from Brazil. That’s pretty awesome. I hope that they weren’t lost on the internet and actually intentionally found me. I know if I found a Brazilian blog, I would be lost. Which happens quite a bit for me. Including today. I started my summer class, good ol’ Anatomy and Physiology I. This is actually my second attempt at this subject. Well, I got lost going to class. I’ve been to this campus over a dozen times, but it was over a year ago. But, still. It’s embarrassing. My lack of direction and whereabouts is atrocious.

Have you ever had a really great invention idea and some stole it? I have. I mean, it’s not like I ever put the idea into fruition. But, when I was about six years old, I thought it was a grand idea to create a retractable sunshade for the car. Living as a Californian girl (for three years of my life), I always wondered why my parents had to always put their cardboard accordion folded sunshade with the tropical sunglasses on the dash each and every time we got out of the car. I thought to my six year old Krystal self, “why can’t they build that in?” I even verbalized it to my parents one time, without knowing the word “retractable,” and was brushed off with something like, “that’s just not how things are.” Do me a favor, and do not Google “Retractable Auto Sun Shade.” SkyMall, baby!

This week I lifted. A lot. With my work schedule being crazy, as ush, I found made time to lift after work, with a few of my workouts crossing over until the next day. I am doing my best to rewire my routines. If I make the effort and take the time to pack a gym bag, I am making sure I go to the gym. In my mind, part of rewiring is taking pride and appreciation in the time it takes to plan ahead, which should make it harder for me to give into anything other than that. And even if that isn’t the case, it usually challenges me to consider the time I put into planning.

down and out. well, kinda…

Super excited. Headed to my first lunchtime soccer game in ages. Little did I know.

Super excited. Headed to my first lunchtime soccer game in ages. Little did I know.

Such a slacker, I know. I did so good scheduling all my post when I was on vacation, but each time I sat down to compose last week, I would get about halfway finished with a post, and just give up. So, needless to say, I have a few posts coming your way this week.

Why is this titled down and out, you ask? Well, one of the main reasons for my lack of blogging last week is because I had a slight dilemma. I found out that I tore my meniscus(again)!

This is not okay. I didn't think it was that bad, but doctor didn't agree.

This is not okay. I didn’t think it was that bad, but doctor didn’t agree.

It put me in a bad mood, but finding out added a sense of relief knowing what is finally going on. I didn’t want to post much about it because it took the majority of the week to go through x-rays, MRIs, specialists, and the surgeon. Fortunately, for me, I don’t have to have surgery (yet). I was given a topical gel to apply a couple times a day in hopes to stimulate cell growth. This isn’t my first rodeo, but it came at a “bad” time. There is never really a good time to tear your meniscus, but this came in the midst of me making some really important decisions. More about that later 🙂 Also, before some of you go off on the “running is bad for you tangent.” I tore my meniscus playing soccer, not from running. Which leads me to this, I am formally retiring from soccer. I’m burying my cleats out in the country and pouring Gatorade over their grave for all the knees that didn’t make it this far.

RIP

RIP

I am 1) getting too old for this 2) can’t afford to put money into something that can be avoided. It is sad to come to this decision, but my health is more important than a hattrick (who am I kidding, hattrick?) in a lunch league to win a t-shirt, just sayin.

Until everything is healed up, I am primarily sticking to biking, swimming, and weightlifting. Well, that’s all I’m really allowed to do right now. Another sad but true story that comes from this, I won’t be able to compete in the triathlons I had planned this Summer and Fall. But, that only gives me more time to get healthy again and train for something else.

So lets just say, I am baaacccckkk. I hopefully will be back better than ever.

friends don’t let friends…

Friends don’t let friends take gym self-portraits. That’s why I hired my boyfriend to take a few actions shots of me exclusively for MWA. Sorry about the bright neon shirt. My brother used to tease me growing up by saying you have to be a cartoon or animated to come near me, I’ve never been afraid of bright colors.

This week I discovered something that has changed my life forever. Can I get a “what, what” for LARABARS? God bless the Lara who created these wonderful snacking deliciousness. Made with all real ingredients and grain and sugar free (most flavors). I want to stock up on these before the zombie apocalypse.

Week 3&4 mileage totals:

January 22- 5.03 mile run
January 24- 3.00 mile run
January 26- 12.00 mile run
January 27- 3.00 mile including hills
January 29- 4.65 mile run
January 30- 3.25 mile run
January 31- 3.21 mile run

January total mileage: 126.06 miles

Fell a tad behind on my mile updates in the last week. Mostly because my computer has been on the fritz so most of my updating has been on my phone and iPad. Most people find that to be a breeze, but those electronics are so touchy and sometimes I fat-finger keys and mess the whole thing up.

So, in the last week, I have been extremely busy with training. I joined my boyfriend’s gym, and he has been helping me with strength training. Which I have thoroughly enjoyed. So much so, I bought lifting shoes and gloves. Who knew they created shoes just for the sole purpose of lifting?!? Decided to add weightlifting three times a week to my training but will start to gauge how I’m feeling to determine if I should cut-back or keep pushing forward. I’m terrified of over training. Currently, my program consist of running 4-5 days a week, a yoga/Pilates day, and a rest day.

Some other exciting news this week!!! I got new shoes! Proud owner of Brooks Pure Cadence running shoes. They are a part of the Brooks PureProject line. Lightweight, flexible, and flashy! These babies are bright pink! I am still “breaking them in” but for the most part I have enjoyed my runs in them.
